THE MOUNTAINS OF MY HOMELAND

Olympus in countless depictions, Vermio, Agrafa, Pindos, Grammos, Pangaio, Papigo, Taygetos, Tzoumerka and so many other Greek mountains keep alive, before our eyes and in our psyche, the creator’s passion for the mountains, with those of his homeland as its epicenter. Warlamis manages to endow the mountains with a divine presence with these paintings…

…We live in a beautiful place, no matter how much we sometimes show disrespect for it... As Minister of the Environment, but also as a person who grew up in a small village in Thessaly, I feel a special love for the Greek countryside. I know that all Greeks feel the same love. However, it is the modern rhythms of life that sometimes make us forget that the environment is our home, and we must protect it. And especially in Greece, this natural “home” of ours has rare beauty, which is why we must protect it doubly. So, at those times when we forget, we need some “little bells” to bring us back to our senses. Such a “little bell” is the wonderful work of our renowned architect and painter Professor Efthymios Warlamis “The Mountains of Greece” that you are holding in your hands. It is a national project, which is why I enthusiastically accepted the publication of this album under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Public Works. I believe that by browsing through it, all readers will remember how beautiful our country is. They will feel a little of the pride of our magnificent mountains. They will love Greece even more and become more sensitive to environmental protection….
