THE ART MUSEUM IN AUSTRIA

The museum, “Das Kunstmuseum”, was founded by Warlamis and his wife Heide in the small town of Schrems in the Waldviertel region of northern Austria, on a 14-acre site with the financial support of the local and regional government and the Federal Ministry of Education and Culture and is a very important infrastructure project for the development of the wider region.

The “Kunstmuseum” offers a comprehensive and experiential information on art and the new artistic movements of the 21st century with a universal character and motto: Here Art is for everyone – Everyone is welcome.

The content of the new museum has three main directions:

1- The introduction and information to painting, sculpture, architecture and design with exhibitions, events, workshops and seminars aimed at both children and adults with the motto:

2- The Academy for Children that through play cultivates creativity, develops imagination and is an excellent tool for experiential teaching and support for teachers and students.

3- The artistically designed park, a landscape with large sculptures, enigmatic stone squares and the impressive open theater where performances and events are organized, a unique attraction for children and adults.

While Warlamis was alive, every year in a large annual exhibition he presented a visual theme in the spaces of the Museum’s periodic exhibitions. Since 2017, the management of the Museum has been undertaken by Warlamis’ team together with his wife Heide Warlamis.

Information about the museum can be found on the website www.Daskunstmuseum.at

he himself writes...

In the architectural design of the exterior of the Museum, I return to the repertoire of archaic primitive architecture. The dry stone technique is linked to the ruins of the megalithic cultures of Malta and Central Greece. Excavated ruins of settlements of an imaginary city of the past and the future at the same time. I shaped the charm of the unfinished, the endless, as a memory to Frederick Kiesler, my teacher, architect of the "Endless House" and the "Contemplation Pit". Stone architecture avoids formalities and decorations. In its raw state it achieves the familiar, the welcoming, the genuine. A park of architectural magic, a small basic school of architectural experiences, which leaves open the various architectural situations. Without a roof and with "irrational" furnishings. A place of initiation into the deepest secrets of architectural design. The colorful sculptures are like inconceivable bases for celestial beings, for fairies and angels. If one lingers for a moment, one can feel their fluttering around, which tenderly and friendly brings a fresh breeze to the park.
